Congratulations to Hannes Mareen, Postdoc Researcher at IDLab-MEDIA, who received the bronze trophy at the Vlaamse PhD Cup 2022!
The Vlaamse PhD Cup is a competition in which scientists pitch their completed PhD research in just three minutes. From 60 recently-graduated candidates, a selection of 16 scientists was made. Those lucky researchers followed a 4-day mediatraining by The Floor is Yours, FishGrowFeet, Koen Wauters (VRT NWS), Gina Peeters (Geena Lisa), Bernadette Timmermans, and Riadh Bahri (VRT NWS). In the semi finals, 8 finalists were selected by a 5-member jury of communication experts. Those 8 scicomm-enthusiasts pitched their research on stage in the AMUZ in Antwerp, Belgium. Another 5-member jury then got to decide who won the PhD Cup. The entire finals can be rewatched here here. Hannes’ 3-minute pitch can be watched here:
Moreover, the finalists also recorded a 90-second video for an audience award. Hannes’ 90-second video can be watched here:
The Vlaamse PhD Cup is organized by SciMingo, with media partners Radio 1, EOS, and VRT Taal. Moreover, it is sponsored by partners such as FWO, imec, and Vlerick Business School. The golden trophy and audience award was won by Eline Lievens (from UGent), the silver trophy by Emilie Cardon (from UAntwerp), and the bronze trophy by Hannes Mareen (IDlab-MEDIA, UGent - imec). Congratulations to the three of them!
