Congratulations to Hannes Mareen, Postdoc Researcher at IDLab-MEDIA, who won the first #ThesisThread competition!
The #ThesisThread competition is awarded by the Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad (VLIR, Flemish Interuniversity Council) consisting of the five Flemish universities. The contestants set out their doctoral thesis in a Twitter thread of no more than 20 tweets in an engaging and accessible way.
The interuniversity jury composed of communication-experts from the five Flemish universities has selected three winners: Hannes Mareen (from IDLab-MEDIA, UGent), as well as Lucas Mergan and Liesbet Van Bulck (both from KULeuven)! Congratulations to the three of them!
Hannes graduated as PhD in March 2021. His thesis is titled “Pirates of the Film Industry: The Curse of the Forensic Watermark” and explores video watermarking. His work was funded with a PhD SB grant by Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) and supported by IDLab, Ghent University - imec.
Hannes’ #ThesisThread explains how Game of Thrones episodes could leak on The Pirate Bay before the release date, even though they were protected by a watermark. The first tweet of the #ThesisThread can be found here (click on the tweet to see the full thread ):
In 2015, @GameofThrones episodes were leaked on #ThePirateBay before the release date.🎞️
