VENTOUX - Video Enrichment to Optimize User Experience of Cycling Race Broadcasts The VENTOUX project wants to automatically create richer, adaptable and more interactive sports coverage which can also be commercialized and used more widely.
VENTOUX starts from the helicopter images that now mostly end up untouched in the living room and will extract the rich information contained in these images and use them to build more interactive visualizations and innovative services. We want to perform the following actions on the images:
- Extract the exact location of what is shown in the helicopter image.
- Identify the athletes present in the image.
- Add realistic AR objects providing information to the viewer.
The research consortium
IDLab-MEDIA and the research group of Prof. Steven Verstockt join forces with EMG Belgium as media partner. The project runs from January 2023 to December 2024, with subsidies from the Flemish government’s Department of Culture, Youth & Media (Departement Cultuur, Jeugd & Media).
